Confirming Contact From Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G)
Emails from scammers claiming to be “PG&E” are NOT from PIE&G.
(Thu 1/16/2014) Recently, utility members of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) have reported receiving
suspicious emails from scammers posing as “PG&E” notifying our members of past due payment. The email includes
an account number, a past due amount and a link to access the account to make payment. Other northern Michigan
utilities have also been targeted by telephone scams.
The only time Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op will gather personal information about you is when YOU
call US to establish service or inquire on your account. If your account is delinquent, you will receive a notice on
your bill and you will receive automated calls from our phone notification system. The call will instruct you to make
payment using our secure automated phone system or on our website.
Here are ways to protect your home or business:
Never give personal information, credit card numbers or bank account numbers to unexpected or unknown callers.
Never open suspicious emails. Instead, permanently delete the message immediately.
Always verify the authenticity of any email before opening the message or following links in the message.
PIE&G does not make appointments by email or request payment by email. If you have questions about your bill, contact us by phone or access your account via our secure website. If you made an appointment with PIE&G, you may call back at any time to confirm prior to a scheduled visit.
If you believe you are a victim of a recent phone or email scam and you gave personal information or a credit card number or bank account numbers, report it immediately to your credit card company or bank and call local law enforcement.
Our 24 hours answering service is available to report
outages or other emergencies at 800-423-6634.
