5:30 pm Update to Wind Outages
Gale force winds and downed trees caused approximately 7,930 power outages for Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) members beginning around 9 a.m. Crews have restored 5,545 services today, but approximately 2,383 services remain without power at 5:30 p.m. Much of northern Michigan was affected. The largest number of outages for PIE&G members occurred in Montmorency and Cheboygan Counties.
PIE&G anticipates that repairs will continue into tomorrow and that members who are currently without power should make preparations now to be without power overnight. Sustained strong winds are predicted to continue into tomorrow and may cause additional outages. Delays in repair times are also anticipated for replacement of broken poles and tree removals from lines. Line crews from Wolverine Power and Homeworks Tri-County are assisting PIE&G and all available personnel will continue restoration efforts into the night. PIE&G’s Call Center is open this evening and members with smart phones may check for updates to the outage map at www.pieg.com .
PIE&G members should contact PIE&G immediately at (800) 423-6634 to report their power outage or any downed power lines. Residents are cautioned to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed wires and to report them immediately to PIE&G or a local law enforcement agency.
